in the past few months we've been busy with making the GUI secretary-proof... we hope that we got there. Some of you liked the result, some of you liked it less... that's life
Ladies and Gentlemen,
The browser integration is served (hopefully).
(the b2 is a little update fixing the "behind the browser" issue)
Update 1.4.10b3: New file tracking system
The solution: we now track only file movements that are handled inside Tabbles - to be more precise where Tabbles is used to paste. The full story is in this blog post.
Update 1.4.10b4: bettere memory management (we hope!)
... and a bunch of small fixes.
Update 1.4.10b5: when saving a web page, Tabbles understands it and moves the htm along with the folder
- added shortcuts like Ctrl+C and Ctrl+X
... and a bunch of small fixes.
Update 1.4.10b6: fixed the hellish "crazy slow-down" bug - at least we hope
mrdna, can you confirm it?
Update 1.4.10b7: many little things
- you can now choose the length of the one-click pop-ups
- the Quick window is opening on top fo the Tabbles window
- Fixed a serious db corruption bug introduced in previous betas: use the "repair db tool" to fix it
- many other bug fixes
1) Download and install the .msi
(if this is the first time you install Tabbles, remember that you need the .net framework 3.5sp1)
2) Drag the bookmarklet into your browser bar:
What you need to do is to drag the bookmarklet (you find it here, it's the link saying "Tag with Tabbles") on your browser. It works fine with Firefox, IE7/8 and it works ok (not 100% sure...) also with Chrome. No clue about Opera/Safari but it should work there too.
Please have a look at the help page for the Delicious bookmarklet: I'll soon make a guide like this too.
You will get several dialogs asking to confirm that you know what you're doing, for security reasons, those are standard for whenever a javascript script tries to communicate a desktop application... we hope that you trust we don't do malware
Note:
We're soon gonna move from trialware to freemium and Maurizio is working on a portable version of Tabbles. Because of that Tabbles won't use the registry anymore...so, the first time you open this next version, you'll be asked to enter your serial number again, the serial will be saved into a file and the software won't ask you that the next time. Also remember to ask me your new serial number.
This is what it looks like:

How does the browser integration work:
based on the hint frome Kromeboy we now register the protocol tabbles: to Tabbles.exe and use a little piece of Javascript (the boomarklet) to send commands to Tabbles.exe. So:
1) You can call the Tabbles quick-tag window via Javascript, the format is:
tabbles:tag_url;name of the page to be tagged;http://mypage.com
(The ; is used as a separator).
2) You can send also a command line to Tabbles.exe saying "let me tag this URL", the syntax here would be:
Tabbles.exe tag_url "name of the page to be tagged" http://mypage.com
(here the space is used a separator ).
Also
- if you can you make a nicer Javascript, please do! This Javascript was written by me personally (sounds like a joke, isn't it? - ok I also used the help of my brother...)
- we'll be extending this to allow you to tag files/urls via command line (specifying the tabbles to be used). This is indeed gonna the first version of SDK for Tabbles.
Feedback is highly appreciated here - we're not even sure the ; is a good choice for a separator!
Andrea + Maurizio
