Wasn't sure where to put this so here goes

I keep meaning to work out good ways to use this Growl for Windows : http://www.growlforwindows.com/gfw/default.aspx

On my iphone i have 2 apps where you can forward events to it so i will start using these in some of my future projects to let people know when events have occurred.


With shared tabbles, i thought it might be cool to be able tag a file as important so that when it appears in the shared tabble then an event would occur to let the other person that this file in there. So maybe you could add for this, run an application on command line option (so i can use it with growl etc) / email user with the file name.

A good scenario would be that someone is waiting for a file to appear from a colleague. The other person when finished on this file could tag it "Important", place it the shared tabble, Tabbles would alert the person waiting for this

thanks for the input. We heard something similar from a totally different source (a friend working as sysadmin in a large company).

As you mentioned, the thing could work as a command line thing? I guess this could be done easily, probably the easiest way for us would be that "when something changes in this tabble, execute this command line".

Could this be an acceptable solution for you?

P.S.: did you have a look already at the shared-tabbles? We've just uploaded the 1.5.9 rev4 which has a much improved GUI... would love to hear some feedback on that. Of course you can test it on your LAN if you have one.

Sorry for the long delay. Yeah a command line option would be fine. I guess people could make a tabble for "Important" items and then an item gets tagged here, an event could trigger

I'll look into other things to trigger by running a command line program. Can't think of a command line email program but there must be one out there. Maybe get it to have templates etc so when the file comes in then you get an email telling you about it.

Tabbles would have to have to way to output what file was added though. Maybe add some variable you could use? Command line programs could then be something like

c:\eventHandler.exe %NewFile%

Hehe, rubbish name for variable but couldn't think of anything else atm. More variables could be implemented too such as file date, file size?


I'll work on some scenarios when you get this working and examples Already got some ideas in mind. Echo out the file names as they come in then send out daily reports etc. Lots of uses for this if you make extra event handlers.

I use AutoitScript - http://www.autoitscript.com/ to make the odd gadget so sure i could come up with some useful addons. Must go back to a real language sometime though

Ok, but listen, I can't promise we'll look on this anytime soon... we're 100% deep into making the share-tabbles feature workin fine...and that has top prority. But as I said, I'll note this thread

No problem. It's actually something i don't need at the moment Just thought it would be a nice addition to have. Mainly the alerting users to flagged files i thought could be useful.
