Autotag: Ignore Open Office temp files

    Postby wilsonch » Sun Apr 18, 2010 2:55 am

If I have a folder with documents in it and autotag rules exist, if I open "MyFilename.doc" in the folder in Open Office "Writer", "Writer" creates a temp file with a name like ".~lock.MyFilename.doc#" Tabbles dutifully tags that file. When I close the file, the temp file goes away but the Tabbles entry remains and I have to delete it manually.

My feature request is that Tabbles would not create the entry at all.

Well, I'm willing to try this regular expression method, but when I see in the auto-tag definition panel a very nice "and the file type is" parameter my own preference would be to have "and the file type is not" rather than to require the powerful but not intuitive regular expression approach.

    ...

Okay, after starting to look at it I will take you up on your offer to help out. I have worked with regular expressions but I'm being lazy and in general I haven't worked much with negations (exclusions). So. I will be grateful if you can write a regular expression that would exclude file names that start with ".~lock." -- that is dot, tilde, "lock", dot. This of course is at the filename level, the level that is at the end of the full file name with path. I suppose one could relax the restriction and say that we want to exclude files that have that string anywhere in the full path+name.

    Good idea.

I am adding a check to ignore files starting with .~lock. You will see this in the next version. (I'll post here when it's out).

Do you know if this pattern works for all openoffice apps? (writer, calc, etc) Otherwise I might have to add some more pattern.

That's really good news. I am looking forward to the feature.

I looked at the files created by Open Office 3.2 under Windows XP, for the five applications that I have. The database application did not create a lock file for me, but it complained I didn't have a proper JRE so it declined to work. The other four applications opened fine and created lock files with uniform naming patterns. The file names all started with ".~lock." and ended with ".xxx#" where "xxx" is the Open office file type (odg, odp, ods, odt). I did not try any fancy file names with extra dots or spaces or any other potentially special cases.

Tabbles 1.5.9 is ignoring Open Office temp files. Huzzah!

I haven't tested all the variations, just the word processor.

    Maurizio, thanks!

I would like to give some suggestion:
Not to ignoreing a paticular program's temp files, but to have some "Ignoring Rule List". or "Ignoring Tabble/Rule"
There would be million of programe we are going to install, but why can't we just add a rule to ignore it?

I know a file named *.dwl" is a backup file for autocad, normally I would not wanted to find it or even don't wanted to see it exist in my workspace. Cuz it just mess up my search result. But, When my computer got failed while working, I pray for the survival of this file.
we can just put a tag in the file, just like ticking "invisable" in normal file, then we would not see it normally except I partically add a + in the "Equation". and the rule is a listing of backup/temp file
"for all file named "*.dwl" be hidden"
"for all file named "*.bak" be hidden"
"for all file named "*.temp" be hidden"
    ....
then the last thing is to make a list of ignoring for your own.

    hope this idea useful
